November 15th, 2002 was a sad day for the Martus/Luna families, during a hunting trip a tragedy took place and we lost 2 great family men. Ryan Martus and Roger Luna Jr., both were City of Flint Police Officers and outstanding members of the Genesee County community.
Within weeks the Martus/Luna families took this unexpected tragedy and founded the Martus/Luna Memorial Association which gives away scholarships and donates money to various charities during the holidays, including hardship cases.
In December of 2012 the Martus/Luna Association donated money for the first annual Martus/Luna Holiday Food Giveaway, from this event a weekly food giveaway began. We soon realized there was a real need in our community and in October of 2014 the Martus Luna Food Pantry was open.
Achievements & Awards: In August of 2018 the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan reported that our pantry passed the inspection for proper site distribution and procedures per the MDE requirements. In 2018 we received the Michigan Harvest Gathering Beacon of Light Award.
