Light shines in beams
As if the heavens are peering down

Down upon the people who are worthy?

Or down upon the people who are wealthy?

Light shines in beams

Beams that seek out the kids who are bright?

Or beams that seek out kids…Who are white?

I have a dream, not just me but millions of me’s just like me
We have a dream
Someday light will shine in rainbow beams
Rainbow beams that will seek out all those kids who are just begging to be seen
Rainbow beams that see all kids as bright

Not. Just. The whites…

I look into the bright night sky
Someplace inhabited by people with skin far lighter than mine
Thousands of stars, shining ever so bright, breathtaking shimmers of beautiful light
But it appears the closer one gets to a town like mine fewer and fewer stars are allowed to shine
They told us as children that stars shine in rainbows of light
And yet the older I grow, the more I notice my people’s light struggling to show
I used to think starlight shined in rainbow beams
Yet the light was always white, I’ve just been living in a daydream

So often do we see the color white cloud colored scenes
I truly once believed that light shined in rainbow beams
Now it seems there is but only thing stronger than rainbow beams
Is the white man and his infinite appetite for hate and greed
